What Do Ya Think?

Today was Take Your Child to Work Day. As a result, more than HALF of my students were gone! Needless to say, my lesson was tossed out the window. Aside from being a little annoying to have to replan for the next few days, it was a nice break from the reproduction unit we are doing. I was in DEFINITE need of a break from all the questions that my little inquisitive scholars have.

Soooooo, my students had a work day and I played on the blog! After two years (yeah! 2 years!) of blogging, I felt like it was time for a little template updating. :) I also added a few new links in our Clickin' Around section, so be sure to check them out. What do you think? Do you like it?

It's almost Friday...

Why We Teach

Last week was not an easy week to be a teacher. Feeling incredibly down on Tuesday morning in light of the Virginia Tech tragedy, I found an envelope on my desk when I arrived to school. Inside was a letter from a former student of mine. The letter brought me to tears as it helped me to remember that even on the most difficult days we, as teachers, do make a difference.

Here is what it said (with the student's name changed, of course):

Dear Mrs. Daniel,
You know me. It's Joe. I'm going to high school now. I am 15 now and living my life as usual. Nothing has really changed for me. I will never change and you know this.

I am writing this letter to you because I have to. But what is this about you say? Well, I have to write this to you because you are one of the teachers that I liked the most throughout my whole life of going to school. That says a lot. You always looked out for me and believed in me and never let me fail. You pushed me when I needed it the most eventhough I didn't want to do anything. You were always there for me and you always will be!

You should know by now that you have inspired me to work harder than I have before. I am actually doing my work now (all of it). I'm bringing grades that were F's up to C+'s. I listen to most of my teachers but some of them just get on my nerves but yet the work still gets done.

How has your life been since we all left? What did you name your baby? I bet you have been having fun with her. Anything new happen that I don't know about?

I hope you and your new family have a wonderful life together and I will be seeing more of you in the future.

Cordially,
Joe

Kids, I mean Adults, say the darndest...Comment Competition.

Now's your chance to be the author. We would love to have you create a caption for Miss Sofia. Use the rubber ducky or the bubbles or any idea to create a caption. The last picture is Sofia in her favorite hat that Aunt Lindsey got her from France last year. So go ahead, be creative! The more comments the funnier this will be! Don't be shy, everyone leave a post! Hope you all have some fun with this! I'm calling you out MYC ladies, girls from 829, family and friends. Random people visiting for the first time to our random fans from California. Who got the best line...?

A Tiny Request...

It isn't often that Chris and I ask for much, but right now we need your help. Sofia has had a really bad ear infection (her first) for the past few days as well as a cold. Our jobs have also been incredibly demanding with extra responsibilities and longer hours lately. Nights have turned into naps and the days seem never-ending. Needless to say, we are tired. So, in a spare moment, would you mind saying a little prayer for a healing ear and a good night's sleep? Here's a cute picture of Sofia for some motivation. :) Thanks and love to all!!

Almost the happiest day of my life...

1.) The day Sofia Kathleen Daniel was born
2.) The day I married my best friend
3.) Today...(see below)
4.) The day I found $300 in my dresser drawer 5 months after I thought I lost it
5.) The day I moved back to Colorado and saw the Rocky Mountains
6.) The day I bought my first house and became officially poor
7.) The day I graduated college and had to grow up...

I'll stop there. Seven is a good number, actually the best number. This week my neighboor told me if I got her a football by Wednesday night, she would get it signed by the almighty Denver Bronco great himself, John Elway. Christina works in public relations for the V.A. and was hosting an event at a local hospital. She pulled a few strings and I got what all little boys here in Broncos Country dream of. This will join my collection of John Elway Superbowl football cards and the 1"x1" piece of "game worn" football pants mounted with a glass etched picture memorabilia.
