Love the Looooong Weekend!

We had a great long weekend hanging out with each other. I love our little family. :)

So, we learned our lesson with the camera. Be creative...tilt your head...we'll make sure to hold the camera the right way the next time. :)

Phew! All that playing....Time for a nap!

Jackpot!

Today, while on my way home from my morning errands, I stopped at a yard sale at one of the million dollar homes in our neighborhood. I stopped purely out of curiousity to see what millionaires get rid of at sales like these. To my surprise, this particular couple wanted to get rid of all the baby clothes their daughter had worn to make room for their expectant son in just a few weeks. I sifted through the Polo, Gap, Gymboree, and other name brand clothes and drove away with 6 new outfits for only 3 DOLLARS!

Yes, it's true. I am the master bargain hunter! Have a beautiful holiday weekend!

Congratulations!!

Two of our very dear friends reached a major milestone in their lives this weekend. Christie graduated with her Master's degree from University of Wisconsin and Tanya graduated with her Master's degree from Clark University!

We are SO proud of you two and are glad to know that there are two such intelligent, amazing women out there to make this world a better place. Love ya!

A Lesson Learned

My hubby. *sigh* He works so hard to provide for our little family. Throughout this past year, he has become particularly savvy on saving a buck or two with coupons and discounts. Tuesday night, however, my dear husband may have gone a bit too far.

Unbeknownst to me, Chris responded to a postcard on Friday that would allow us to get a free Target gift card if we answered a few survey questions. He thought, "Perfect! We shop there ALL the time for groceries." Mistake #1.

On Tuesday came the call from the company giving away the card. Chris eagerly answered all the questions (about our family water consumption) over the phone waiting for the confirmation that our card would soon be on the way. Mistake #2. This is when they pulled a fast one. The last question of the "survey": "Can we send someone to your house to do a water test?"

"Sure," Chris said. Mistake #3. The operator explained that it would be a quick test and demonstration lasting no longer than 45-50 minutes and gave him some time slots (5-6 or 8-9) to chose from. He chose 8 p.m. for the tester to come by.....and forgot to tell me. Mistake #4.

Let's make what turned out to be an INCREDIBLY LONG evening short. The "tester" turned out to be a sales person for a water softener company. The product itself was amazing. Our ability to get her to leave and understand that we had no money to spend was not. At 11:07, I finally turned out the porch light and locked the door.

Now, after sitting through a two-and-a-half-hour sales pitch, most couples receive a free or greatly reduced stay at a luxury resort. My husband got me a $20 gift card. God I love him.

A Special First

This past Sunday marked my first Mother's Day. Words cannot express how incredible these past 7 months have been. I am a lucky woman.

Week In Review

It isn't very often that one gets to experience a week filled with such eclectic events....
  • My best friend gave birth to a beautiful baby boy!
  • My sister interviewed for her first teaching job.
  • Sofia sat herself up from a laying down position!
  • Chris was nominated to be in charge of all of MYC's safety and OSHA requirements.
  • I had a Ramen noodle cook-off with a student using beakers and a hot plate.
  • I won the Ramen noodle cook-off resulting in a lunch and my student having to dress in a full-scale chicken costume. (picture to come)
  • I won a year-long bet with a student resulting in a tasty turtle pie to eat!
  • During a physical/chemical change lab that we were doing in class, a student ate a spoonful of sodium boraite (a.k.a. Borax) because "it looked like sugar" resulting in a phone call to poison control and an awesome stomach ache.
  • Raised over $300 with my National Junior Honor Society kids for the Holly Tornado Relief Fund by having a bake sale.

Phew! Good thing it's Friday...I'm beat!

How Lucky We Are

Just after 7 tonight, I got a call from my best friend's husband saying that it was time to head to the hospital. Kate's labor was well underway and they were going to get a move on. We are waiting anxiously for the arrival of their little one and are soooo excited for this new phase of life to begin for them. All the excitement got me to thinking....

It feels like yesterday that my dearest friends and I met for the first time (at age 13). We played on our streets, jumped on trampolines, fell in and out of crushes, had crushes turn into love, stayed up way too late and laughed so hard we cried. As we grew, so did our friendships - fearlesssly standing the test of distance and time. Now, as we support each other in our relationships, marriages, endeavors, careers and most recently, families, I can't help but have a sense of awe in the history we have created with one another. We are a lucky few and I am honored to have such amazing women in my life.

Good luck to Kate and Zach on this special evening! Our thoughts and prayers are with you and we can't wait to meet Spike(tte)! :)

xoxo

Stayin' Alive

Hello, hello. Just a quick note to let you know that we are all stayin' alive out here in Denver, we've just been incredibly busy. I promise that we will get a real post up in a day or so when our lives calm down just a little.

Until then...
