A Dual Point of View

From Daddio:
So, we went to check on Sofia before we went to bed (as we do every night) and we discovered a shocking surprise! Sofia was sleeping in the infamous "high hiney" pose that my sister made famous in our family back when we were kids. We couldn't pass up this photo opportunity which caused us to write this post.

Today's main laughter was caused by a game of peek-a-boo involving Sofia, the leather ottamen and me. Her laugh was coming straight from the belly which caused her to lose her balance and fall over. A similar effect took place with Meg and I.

From Mama:
Alright, I have tried over and over to think of something to say...however, my thoughts are interrupted by various songs playing on iTunes, my husband plucking the grey hairs out of my head, and my grumbling tummy from the sour milk that I accidently had in my cereal today...

We were lucky to have Chris home today to spend some family time. We had lunch with some friends at one of our favorite restaurants (Lola) where Sofia was, of course, the star of the show. She seems to have discovered a new range of her voice...the scream. She let out a scream followed by a giant two-toothed smile which caused the head chef and his crew to erupt in laughter in their open kitchen near our table. Hmmm, we may need to work on some alternatives for expressing excitement. :)

Chris, Sofia and Layla all snored today during naps. I love having this kind of ammo. hehehe

And here come the photos...

The high hiney position caught on film! How is her form Aunt Lindsey?

No, we haven't become vegetarians. We made homemade babyfood! ...and don't worry, Chris did a cost/ounce comparison to make sure that it was completely worth the labor, water and electricity. Check your local bookstores for cookbooks out in time for Christmas.

"Look at my nice tan from sitting at the pool all day," said Chris. "And, oh yeah, look at my new glasses." I punched him. :)

P.S. I am really proud of my two new teeth. Don't forget to click on the picture to get a close-up of them!

Great News!

Chris just got the news today that he will be beginning his next project in the middle of August. The cool part is that it's not just ONE project...it's TWO! ...AND he will be working out of the Frederek office just 25 miles outside of the city! He will only have to report to the actual job sites on an occasional basis. No more 1 hour drives for my hard working hubby.

I love Chris so much and I am so proud of him!

My silly little girl

We finally did it. We were able to get Sofia to hold still enough and smile so we could get a picture of her two beautiful, pearly white teeth! She is pretty easy to feed even though sometimes it is a little messy. Today she also had a fixation with her tounge. I think she likes to roll it over her new teeth. This weekend Sofia and I we playing a game where we would each put a finger on our own teeth and laugh, and then we would touch each other's teeth. She was amazed by this and thought it was the funniest thing. Each day brings a new adventure, a new story, and something new to love Sofia for. We are such lucky parents.

P.S. We are having some technical difficulties with our video editing program (silly Macs). We'll get some videos posted of Ms. Motor Legs as soon as possible.

Simplicity

Life can take over if we let it. Today, as I was running errands, I found myself feeling anxious and stressed about various things going on and soon to come. My grip tightened on the steering wheel, I got frustrated with other drivers and then a little giggle from the back seat caught my attention. I checked the mirror to see what Sofia was up to. Sitting in her car seat, Sofia was happy as a clam as she chewed on her seatbelt. Stress gone.

P.S. Layla got her tubes taken out today. She is back to her old self again and has already taken up to chasing the cat up and down the stairs. :)

Hello From Daddio

Meg has been writing most of the posts lately, so I thought I would give a little update from Daddio. My construction project in Loveland is finally on the tailend of things but has required some super long work weeks (think Monday - Saturday). So,
the begining of my summer has been pretty much work work work. The forecast for the second half looks better, just work work. At least I have a supportive and understanding wife and a beautiful smiley baby at home to give me inspiration and dedication to work hard. I'm not sure if my next project will be ready for me to join right away or if I will be spending some time in our new office in Frederick. Either way, whatever comes next will be a nice break and change of pace.

But all is well...Broncos training camp starts in two and half weeks.

Layla's Got Us On Our Knees

Last weekend Layla got stung by a bee. We found out how to handle the swelling and gave her a Benedryl that same day. Problem solved, right? NOPE! When we woke up this morning and the swelling had not gone down and was moving down her neck, we decided that maybe it was time to call the vet.

Poor Layla got an infection from the bee sting and it turned into a baseball-sized lump and she had to have emergency surgery! She came home with a cone around her head and two tubes sticking out of her neck. I can stomach a lot but for some reason poor Layla is bringing me to my knees wanting to gag every time I see her. She gets the tubes taken out on Tuesday. Until then, she belongs to the Conehead family. :)

P.S. I am sparing a picture because it is really THAT gross!

Just Like Mission Impossible

What an increedible week! Sofia, Dawn and I arrived back in Denver on Thursday evening after a super-relaxing trip to her family cabin in Utah. We did absolutely NOTHING except eat, laugh, drink wine, and have a beauty day complete with haircuts and pedicures...even for Sofia! :)
Dawn's sister, Nicole is a stylist and was the sole provider to us all on beauty day. :) She even gave Gracey, the family dog a haircut! Sofia and I were made to feel so welcome at the Lazy Bear Cabin and it was as if our families had known each other our entire lives. It blows me away to have found friendships so unique this late in life.

In my complete dorkdom, I totally dug the drive across the Rockies. I was floored to see that the western slope was the complete opposite of the lush, green and forest-filled front range. Remember the opening scene from MISSION IMPOSSIBLE:II when Tom Cruise is climbing on the giant orange rocks in the middle of nowhere?...that is Utah and what consumed the bulk of our drive until we reached the Sierra Nevadas where the Lazy Bear was. Sofia was a rockstar both to Utah and back crying MAYBE a total of 10 minutes combined!

I feel rested and refreshed, but I am very glad to be home. I missed my hubby!!!

Cabin Fever In A Good Way

Chris, Sofia and I had a fantastic weekend! There is something to be said about how fresh mountain air can be rejuvenating for the soul. A good friend of mine has an amazing cabin deep within the mountains near Colorado Springs. She and her husband hosted a gathering for a group of people to get out of the city and enjoy the summer mountain air. When we arrived, a storm front did too squabbling our hopes of volleyball, boating and swimming. Without skipping a beat, however, our hosts quickly arranged chairs in the pavillion near the lake where we chatted, ate, and laughed at stupid jokes.

On the drive to the cabin. This was the lake we had hoped to play in. The picture does NO justice to the views and atmostphere...

With no end in sight of the rain, we packed up all our gear and headed up to the cabin. The cabin was simply delightful - a log structure, balconies overlooking the aspen and pine trees, not a single city light to dim the twinkle of the stars and the omnipresence of fresh air. We stayed up late enjoying one another's company, playing games, harmonicas (very poorly!) and dancing to the Allman Brothers.

This hammock was awesome! It was like swinging in a wildlife adventure!

Sofia, of course, was the star of the weekend being as happy as ever and even going to be without a tear. We drove back on Sunday afternoon and crashed. We were exhausted! We all laid around for the afternoon before doing some laundry and packing up some items for the next trip...Yes, I said NEXT trip!

Tomorrow (Monday) Sofia and I will be joining my dear friend, Dawn on a drive across the Rocky Mountains to Cedar City, Utah to her family cabin in the mountains until Thursday. We are going to miss Chris SOOOOOOOOOOO bad!!!! Traveling without him just isn't the same. I am hoping to bottle up some of the western Rocky Mountain air to bring back to him so that he can get the refreshing buzz I know we are going to breathing constantly.

Sofia CASHED out tonight. Do you remember the last time you slept this hard?

I'm Real...She's Real

Sofia just said "mama" to me for the first time a few minutes ago. COOLEST moment EVER!!

Yesterday, her first bottom tooth broke through.

Sofia crawled for the first time today too!

It's been a busy two days...I swear she will be walking, talking and solving mystery of the space-time continuum before we know it. Lord help us!
